The home side dominated the first half and should have been well in front but some poor finishing and atrocious fortune ultimately saw Elgin City high tail it out of town with a precious three points.
Rovers started brightly with Craig Young and Stephen Reid in menacing mood. In fact it was Young who was the provider for the best Albion move of the match. The striker held the ball up superbly before sliding the ball through to Stephen Donachy, but the winger could only look on in disbelief as his drive careered off the post after 37 minutes.
The match sparked into life in the 56th minute when Elgin manged to create a rare foray into enemy territory. Fraser Bremner found space down the right and confronted keeper Jamie Ewings, who got down superbly to block. The ball spun high into the air and Martin Bonar deemed it necessary to stick out his hand to clear off the line. The midfielder was given his marching orders as Hugh Dickson ballooned the ball over the bar and out of the ground from the penalty spot.
The away side didn't have to wait long to make amends and took the lead in the 70th minute when a corner eluded everyone in a packed box and fell kindly to the left foot of Iain Vigurs. The full-back picked his spot from 20 yards out, wrong footing Ewings in the process.
Just as it looked like Rovers couldn't get any more unlucky, a pitiful attempt of a shot from Gary Melrose fell to a surprised Paul Napier, who chested the ball down before delivering a rasping volley into the top corner of the net from 20 yards out to seal the victory.
Albion have yet to win a game at home this season as Elgin's three points have allowed them to leapfrog today's rivals in the table.
