A Ciaran Donnelly penalty cancelled out an earlier James Russell strike as both sides settled for a point in a bottom of the league clash at Cliftonhill.
The home side showed their intent early on. Striker Craig Young had a shot blocked before Martin Bonar's effort was well saved by Sandy Wood in the Montrose goal.
However, it was Montrose who took the lead against the run of play when James Russell latched onto a defensive mistake by Gordon Lennon and fired the ball into the roof of the net on 12 minutes.
Again it was all Albion as they pressed hard for an equaliser.
They should have been back on level terms on 25 minutes when a defensive mix-up saw the ball break to Donnelly on the edge of the box but his volley went just over with the keeper stranded.
Donnelly did make amends however ten minutes later when he converted a penalty to get the home side back on level terms.
Graham Hay was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area and referee David Summers pointed to the spot despite the visitors' protests.
For much of the rest of the match it was a scrappy affair with heavy winds not helping the players' cause.
However, both sides did have chances to claim all three points with Gary Middleton seeing a shot rebound off the post while at the other end Young fired the ball into the side-netting when he should have done better.
However, over the course of the game a point apiece was probably a fair result.
