Moffat is penalty king

Two penalties from Michael Moffat earned Ayr a 2-1 victory against Albion at Somerset Park.

Mark Roberts' side took the lead after just two minutes when Moffat scored his first spot-kick of the day after Robbie Crawford had been brought down by goalkeeper Matthew McGinley.

The visitors almost drew level six minutes before the interval when Gary Phillips' cross found Alan Reid inside the area, but Alistair Brown was on hand to keep out the defender with a fine save.

The Wee Rovers were able to level the scores in first-half stoppage time as Steven Howarth rose unmarked to head home Phillips' centre.

Jason Crooks thought he had snatched a late winner for Todd Lumsden's side only for Brown to pull off a crucial save.

Brown's efforts proved even more crucial when, in the 93rd minute, Moffat scored his second penalty after Barry Russell had been sent off for bringing down Ayr's number nine.
