The home side struck first when Borris threaded the ball through the visiting defence for David McNaught to sweep it past Jamie Ewings. But Rovers got on level terms when central defender David Craig slipped in a challenge with Ian Chisholm allowing the striker in on goal to round Stephen Grindlay before netting. McNaught had a strike chalked off for a dubious offside within a minute but the Sons were ahead again just before the break when Ewings flapped at a Chris Boyle cross and Borris drove home from six yards.
The contest looked over seconds after the restart when Gordon Lennon turned Borris' fierce cross high into his own net, and it would have been had Stephen Dobbie scored when one-on-one with Ewings. That missed chance seemed to give Rovers heart and only a great flying save by Grindlay kept out Scott Chaplain's header.
The keeper then dived low to his left to block Albion skipper Ciaran Donnelly's spot kick after Jamie Doyle had been fouled and, a few minutes from time, got down to his other side to clutch a rasping free-kick by Scott Friel.
