Elgin City consolidated their third place position at the top of the Third Division, but were restricted by Albion Rovers in a frustrating match in which both teams struggled to construct much attractive football.
A perfect example of clinical finishing by Adam Nelson in the second half demonstrated the difference between the two sides on the day, although both teams were restricted to few goal-scoring opportunities.
Nelson was the lucky recipient of the ball 10 yards out, following a turbulent goalmouth scramble, and he rifled past Chris Fahey from close range to snatch the points for the Borough Briggs men after 70 minutes.
Youngster Marc McKenzie was responsible for one of Albion Rovers' sporadic chances during the game, and could have equalised with little time remaining on the clock. After ghosting in at the far post, McKenzie connected gloriously with a cross but his half-volley spun off the base of the far post and to safety as Elgin's defence breathed a sigh of relief.
Elgin, minus their two first choice strikers, showed a scant attacking threat until Nelson stepped up to the fore, while Albion will be disappointed at leaving the north without a point after defending resolutely for most of the game.
